Mar Azul Marine Group was founded by Ernie Portuondo and the entire Portuondo family. Ernie was introduced to the world of boating and fishing at a very early age and has loved it ever since. After a very successful 13-year career in Real Estate and Finance, Ernie was able to make a transition into what had always been his passion, the Marine Industry. In 2004 he joined the Allied Richard Bertram Tournament Team. Early in 2006 he became a Sales Executive at Allied Richard Bertram Marine Group where he spent a year and in January of 2007 was named Sales Manager for the Miami office. In September 2008, Mar Azul Marine Group was established as a full service company focused on meeting the diverse boating needs of their clients. Ernie’s expertise will guide Mar Azul’s yacht and boat brokerage service, guiding their clients through the maze of buying, selling, outfitting, shipping or staffing of their vessel. Mar Azul’s concierge service is what has brought them such great success in the past 6 years.

Nicole has been a part of the Mar Azul Team from the very beginning. She attended Florida State University and graduated with a Bachelor’s in Marketing with minors in Hospitality and Communications. Nicole currently manages Regatta Harbor marina and handles all of our client relations. You can always find Nicole at the marina working with our clients.

Jose Renda grew up in Venezuela where boating and fishing were at the center of his life since a young age. Jose brings over 10 years of experience in the marine industry to the Mar Azul team. After graduating from Florida State University with a degree in economics, Jose started his professional career in the shipping industry. In the shipping industry, he took care of procurement and routine maintenance for the fleet of vessels, making his hands on experience key in his development in the marine industry. Whether overseeing maintenance or enjoying time on the water, Jose understands the importance of keeping boats up to the highest standard making his unique skillset an asset to his customer’s experience.

Eric Martinez, a Miami native, grew up boating and fishing in Miami, Bimini and the FL Keys. At a young age, Eric learned that his passion was in mechanics. He started his technical career in aviation while in high school and managed to graduate both high school and George T Baker aviation school at the age of 17 years old. He worked his way up from a mechanic’s helper to the youngest quality control inspector. Throughout the years, he learned that his love for boating surpassed his love for the sky and he transitioned his technical career into the marine industry. Eric joined the Mar Azul team in 2018 and has since become service manager with a team of techs working under him. His charismatic attitude and dedication to his team and every job they taken on makes it easy for customer’s to love him.

Jonathan Lorenzo was born and raised in a family of real estate down in South Florida, and he has been actively using his real estate license since he was 18 years old. About 3 years ago Jonathan decided to combine his knowledge in sales with his true passion, boats and yachts, and being on the water. As a licensed USCG Captain he has had the opportunity in driving and help run a variety of boats, which has helped with his knowledge to put customers into the right vessel for them and their family.

Captain John Emery is a USCG 200 Ton Master. He is a second generation professional fishing Captain with a strong background in boat building. John has over 30 years experience fishing all over the world he specializes in custom Expedition Yachts, Sportfish and Center Consoles.

Louie Fernandez was born and raised in Miami and grew up fishing in South Florida, Bahamas and the Middle Keys. Always near the ocean, Louie has boated and fished these waters most of his life. Louie graduated from Florida International University with a degree in Criminal Justice and began his professional career in boat manufacturing and sales before ultimately pursuing a career in Law Enforcement soon after. Attention to detail and listening to the customer’s specific needs are his priorities and he uses his own experiences as a boat owner to relate to the customer.
