Team Mar Azul was founded in September 2008 by Captain Ernie Portuondo & Nicole Portuondo. They enjoyed an unprecedented run of success for the last 6 years having placed in over 22 tournaments between Florida & The Bahamas. Nicole was the Top Junior and Top Female in the WBS for three years in a row and was invited to the WBS Championships in Los Suenos, Costa Rica all three years. She also was awarded the Top Junior as well as Top Female Awards in the prestigious World Sailfish Championship’s in 2010. In 2013, little sister, Julianne was awarded the Top Female Award in the Latin Builders Tournament held at the Ocean Reef Club following in her Sister and Father’s footsteps.

Captain Ernie Portuondo has been fishing with his client Luis Isaias (Team Owner), Albert Castro (Leeward Rods), Ricky Querejeta, Captain Gene Lebron, Captain Jimmy David ( L & H Sportfishing), & First Mate Anibal Moya on Team Jichi since 2008. They have enjoyed a run of over 26 top three finishes in the last 6 years. Team Jichi fishes the South Florida Sailfish Circuit, The Bahamas Billfish Championship as well as the Custom Boat Shootout and the Baker’s Bay Invitational. Most recently the Team has been down in The Caribbean and placed Second in the ABMT “Boy Scout” Tournament in St. Thomas, USVI. From there the Team will be heading down to The Dominican Republic to fish the September Full Moon for Blue and White Marlin in their 68 Foot Custom Paul Mann before returning to their home port in Coconut Grove, Florida to prepare for the upcoming Sailfish Season.

Most recently Captain Ernie Portuondo has joined forces with two of his life long friends Jorge Piedra (Team Owner) & Henry Jimenez to fish 5-6 Tournaments a year onboard the World Sailfish Champion “Team Rockstar” aka “The Original Rockstar.” A Mercury Marine powered 39’ Sea Vee that has enjoyed an amazing run of success since her launch in 2007. Look for Team Rockstar to continue their run off good times and tournament success this coming season with Captain Nelson “Nelly” Fonseca at the wheel and Mates Vinny “Vincenzo” Delgado and Jorge Piedra Jr. completing the team.
